Half Way to Your First Birthday: Your Sixth Month

Dear Huck, 

This month we just started to get a glimpse of the wild man you are and will grow up to be.  Just before turning 5 months old, you started sitting up for a few seconds at a time.  Early on in your 6th month, you had this skill mastered which prompted us to let you try out a few new things.  

The first thing was taking you to the park to swing in the swings.  Being the wild adventurous boy that you are, you loved it!

A few days later, we had you sit in a restaurant high chair for the first time. You loved that too!  You happily screamed, played, and banged on the table.  Good thing you're cute or they would have kicked us out of there.

So of course, we had to ride in the shopping cart like a big boy too! :-)

Although you could scoot and roll most places you wanted to go, hard as you tried, you couldn't pull yourself up.  Once mommy or daddy put you up, you could stay up.  You thought that was great too!

This month brought your first Thanksgiving.  For some reason you were very cranky that day and mommy was busy cooking so we didn't get too many pictures of you.  Here's what we did get.

Since you loved the park so much the first time, we went back again and again. You loved sitting in the grass and having the ball rolled to you.

Your brother continues to fascinate you.  You always try to participate in whatever he is doing and he's happy to let you when you can.

One of your teachers, Ms. Elke made this cute reindeer using your hand cutouts for the antlers. You really enjoyed it when I would sing Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer to you and use this puppet.

Daddy and I took you to your first Tallahassee Festival of Lights Christmas Parade!  There were all of these floats and lights going by and all you wanted to do was talk to the people around us. 

What else can we say about your 6th month?

• You sleep anywhere between 4 and 6 hours at a time at night but sleep best in mommy and daddy's bed. 
• You've tried and tried to crawl all month but no luck.  You did get up into a push-up position (hands and toes only) a few times.  
• You still laugh, talk, and smile with EVERYONE you meet.  You are quite the social little guy.  
• You are happy to be able to sit up but still prefer to be standing.  
• You love to eat and will eat almost anything but you seem to have a preference for apples, sweet potatoes, and carrots. 
• You love our dog, Fenway, and insist on grabbing her tail, ears, and anything else you can get a hold of.  She loves you too so she lets you :-)
• You've become insanely good at pinching people and it really hurts when you do it. 
• You CANNOT be contained.  You were buckled into your baby swing and pushed yourself out, you were buckled into your bouncy seat and completely flipped it and yourself over, and when you're in the stroller, you try to get out of that too. Calling you wild is an understatement!

Last but not least, your 6 month stats and pictures.  You continue to be a strong and healthy boy.  You weigh 17lbs. and 12oz. and are 28. 5 inches long.  This is just a half inch shy of your carseat limit :-( Your head and height are still in the >97th percentile while your weight is in the 50th. You wear mostly size 6 months except for your pjs which have to be at least size 9 months to be long enough. 

Oh how I wish we could slow down time!

Month Five! Oh My!: Your Fifth Month

Dear Huck,

Your fifth month (yes I realize I'm a month behind) was a busy one that was filled with firsts.  Your first professional portraits, your first visit to the pumpkin patch, your first time really getting sick (fever and all), your first trip to Port St. Lucie, your first time meeting quite a few family members, your first time in a swing, your first Halloween, and your first time being away from daddy over-night (that was tough on both of us). 

How do we keep track of all these firsts? You have a handy dandy calendar that your Nana bought you when you were born.  Mommy documents all your milestones, firsts, etc. religiously each month. That way, when I go to update your blog, I can remember all the awesome stuff you've done.  This calendar also has a place to document your weight, length, and preferences. 





Back to all your firsts. 

1. Professional Portraits with Long's Photography.

2. Pumpkin Patch. This year we continued our yearly tradition of going to the pumpkin patch to pick out a pumpkin.  This of course, was your first year.

  



3. Getting Sick. You got some kind of virus near the middle of the month that had you sneezing, coughing, and with a high fever. I was one worried mama but you had pretty much kicked it within 36 hours.  Thank goodness!

4. Trip to Port St. Lucie.  We scheduled a trip for you, daddy, and me to travel down to visit with family the weekend of the 19th.  On the 13th we got terrible news of a death in the family (more on that later) and that changed everything.  The funeral would be on Wednesday which meant we would have to leave on Tuesday and be gone for the rest of the week.  That meant daddy could not come with us which brings us to...

5. Time Away from Daddy.  You and I spent five nights away from daddy.  We drove five hours just the two of us, mommy got your virus the night we got there and had a fever for three days, we had a devastating funeral to attend, and no daddy to help.  It was awful.  Luckily our family is awesome so there were lots of people to pitch in. 

6. New People.  During our trip to Port St. Lucie you met many family members that you had never seen before and got to see some others for your second or third time.  You met Aunt Christa and your cousins Gracelyn, Griffin, and Jack. You also met your Great Uncles, Tio Sergio, Tio Rene, and Tio Mario; and your Great Aunts, Tia Nieves, Aunt Crystal, and Tia Dely.  Naturally, they all adored you.

7. New Toy. You finally got big enough to try this awesome swing.  You love it and it keeps you entertained while daddy or I cook dinner.

8. Trick-or-Treating.  You had your first trick-or-treating experience in downtown Thomasville on the 27th.  They had a small festival so we took you and your brother and sister to check it out. 

9. Halloween.  Your first Halloween was a pretty spectacular one.  We went to Quincy with your Aunt Sam, Uncle Matt, and Isabella to trick-or-treat.  While your costume was cute it wasn't very creative or orginal. That's okay though.  Daddy fixed that by making you your very own pirate ship! 



10. Sitting Up. Right at the end of your 5th month.  You started being able to sit up for just a few seconds.  Unfortunately, we didn't get any pictures of this.
